Lotus Clean Shock

For disinfection of hot tubs and swim spas

What is Lotus Clean Shock?

Lotus Clean Shock is a cleaner based on Cl2Oxid. It is five times stronger than chlorine. Lotus Clean Shock reliably kills germs, bacteria and legionella.

Disinfection of water with conventional disinfectants such as chlorine or bromine initially renders the bacteria in it harmless. After a certain time, however, a regrowth of legionella or other bacteria can be observed again. The cause is the so-called biofilm. Biofilm serves bacteria as a "retreat and breeding ground" and protects bacteria from disinfectants.

The only disinfection product that penetrates the biofilm, destroys the polysaccharides (complex sugars) it contains and thus detaches the biofilm, is Lotus Clean Shock.

When a shock treatment is necessary:

  • After the initial filling of the hot tub.
  • If the water is not crystal clear.
  • If the water smells unpleasant.
  • If you have slimy deposits on the hot tub wall.
  • If the water has been heavily contaminated by a "hot tub party".
  • Regularly, if you use disinfectants such as chlorine, bromine, active oxygen, etc.

It is also possible to disinfect the hot tub with Lotus Clean Shock alone. This is recommended, for example, for wooden hot tubs without a filter system.

How to perform a shock treatment?

Add 50 ml of Lotus Clean Shock per 1000 litres of water to the water. When adding Lotus Clean Shock, let the pumps run for better mixing. It is important that Lotus Clean Shock can act for at least 8 hours. (If it acts for less than 8 hours, bacteria and dirt may still be present in the hot tub).

You can control the concentration of Lotus Clean Shock with the Lotus Clean Test Strips. After 8 hours, the test strips should still show a concentration of at least 1 ppm. If there is no more Lotus Clean Shock in the water before the eight hours have passed, repeat the shock treatment. Important: These values refer to water heated to 37 degrees Celsius. In colder water, Lotus Clean Shock breaks down more slowly.

If the Lotus Clean Shock still breaks down too quickly after the second application, this may indicate heavy contamination with a lot of biofilm in the pipes. Higher dosages are then indicated. (Maximum 200 ml for 1000 litres of water).

How do you measure Lotus Clean Shock?

You can measure the Lotus Clean Shock content with the Lotus Clean Test Strips.

Can you enter the hot tub if Lotus Clean Shock is in the water?

The concentration of Lotus Clean Shock should not be higher than 5 ppm. Then you can enter the hot tub. At higher concentrations, skin irritations are possible.

Lotus Clean Shock as an additional cleaner for "problematic" hot tubs

Problematic hot tubs are hot tubs with insufficient filtration, e.g. inflatable hot tubs or wooden hot tubs. When using Lotus Clean, sufficient filtration (at least 6 hours a day) and clean filters are crucial factors for success. In some hot tubs, the filter running time cannot be adjusted - this can lead to slimy deposits and cloudiness. In these cases, a shock treatment can be carried out regularly as needed.

After successful shock treatment, wait until there is no more Lotus Clean Shock in the water. Then add the usual amount of Lotus Clean to the water (40 ml to 60 ml).

You can also add 20 ml to 40 ml of Lotus Clean Shock to the water after each bath. The amount depends on the number of people who were in the hot tub. In addition, add approx. 20 ml to 60 ml of Lotus Clean once a week. With this procedure, you use the advantages of both systems: Lotus Clean Shock is a fast-acting oxidizing agent that breaks down after a short time, Lotus Clean is a slow and continuously acting, skin-friendly water care and cleaning agent.

Lotus Clean Shock as the sole disinfectant

Lotus Clean Shock can also be used as the sole disinfectant without Lotus Clean, e.g. for hot tubs without a filter system such as wooden hot tubs.

After using the hot tub, add 20 ml of Lotus Clean Shock per person to the water. Since Lotus Clean Shock has no depot effect, you should add at least 15 ml of Lotus Clean Shock to the water every three days if the hot tub is not in use. Make sure that the dosage of Lotus Clean Shock does not drop below 1.0 ppm.

Lotus Clean Shock as a shock treatment for other types of disinfection

Since most types of disinfection (chlorine, bromine, active oxygen) allow biofilm to grow, it is advisable to regularly carry out a shock treatment with Lotus Clean Shock. This not only eliminates the biofilm, but also many residues from previous disinfections and thus significantly improves water quality.

Lotus Clean Shock as an odor neutralizer

Lotus Clean Shock has the ability to destroy aroma molecules. Thanks to this unique ability, you can refresh bad-smelling water by adding 10 to 20 ml of Shock per 1000 liters of water.

Shelf life

Lotus Clean Shock loses approx. 8% effectiveness monthly and has a maximum shelf life of 1 year. It should be stored in a cool, dark place. The stated quantities should then be increased to compensate for the decreasing effectiveness after the expiry date. There is a date label with the expiry date on the bottom of each bottle.
